Missing Peace: a new Musical

Rhinebeck Writers Retreat awards Missing Peace with a summer residency!

Imagine waking up from a coma and your memory is gone. You are happy, you are free. But you have questions.

If given the choice, would you dare summon the past?

Be careful. If you turn on the light,  you might just see what you’ve hidden in the dark.

I am a songwriter, but until recently, I had never written an entire MUSICAL!! I reunited with writer/composer/musician, Kyle Puccia, who I collaborated with on my award-winning short film, Ancestor Eyes, to write Missing Peace, a fresh new musical that is three years in the making. This is not your typical “showstopping song and dance” type of musical; rather, it’s a complex character-driven play, featuring FIVE Native roles in an intimate cast of seven.

The songs are modern, and the story is current. Missing Peace is set in the Pacific Northwest, and shines the light on the definition of family and the growing epidemic of suicide. The lyrical use of storytelling activates the stakes for Chase, our lead character, as he struggles to understand and piece together his memories.

Missing Peace had its film developmental process in May 2019 with the Native Voices Theater Playwrights Retreat in Los Angeles. We enjoyed an aggressive week working with a director, dramaturg, music director, and a cast of actors to make major rewrites to the project. At the end of the week, we presented our work with two sold-out staged reading presentations, first at Native Voices at the Autry in Los Angeles, and then at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.

Now, I'm excited to announce that Missing Peace has been awarded a summer residency with the prestigious Rhinebeck Writers Retreat! A huge thank you to Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director, for pairing us with Donna Lynn Hilton, Producer at Goodspeed Musicals. She will be our Artistic Advisor for dramaturgical insights into our project, and we couldn't be more thrilled!! Stay tuned for updates on our progress!

Check out a few of our DEMO songs…you just might hear a familiar voice ; )
